East Timor's Ramos-Horta wounded

East Timor television reported that Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao's home also came under fire, but that no one was hurt.

Ramos-Horta was being operated on at an Australian army hospital in the capital, presidential adviser Agusto Zunior told The Associated Press. It was unclear whether his injury was life-threatening.

One of Ramos-Horta's guards was killed in the attack, army spokesman Maj. Domingos da Camara said.

Two cars passed Ramos-Horta's house on the outskirts of the capital, Dili, at around 7 a.m. local time and began shooting, da Camara said. A rebel soldier wanted on murder charges for a flare-up of violence in 2006 was killed in a shootout with guards, he said.

Alfredo Reinado was due to go on trial in absentia for his alleged role in several deadly shootings between the rebel army troops and police units in April and May of 2006.

The beginning of the year is a great time to take out the old and bring in the new beauty items you carry with you everyday. Cleaning out your make-up bag is the perfect time to update your make-up and keep germs away. The most used product in your bag is most likely a pressed powder compact. If a crust has developed on top it is oil from your face that has been transfered to the powder when not in use. You can scrape it off with an old tooth brush and replace the puff. To prevent this in the future, keep the cellophane circle the compact comes with as long as you can to separate the puff from the powder. If you buy a new compact, get one that has a separate compartment for the puff, such as L'Oreal true match compact. To help keep make-up fresh and germs at bay keep this in mind: Powdered products, such as powder, eye shadows and blush have a life of about 3 years.

Deadly Smith Mine explosions continue to echo

Jake would be part of a recovery crew that found James' body five days later. Jake helped carry his father's body to a part of the mine where it would remain until it was brought out the next day.Jake never talked about that horrific day to his family, Jeffrey McNeish said.Jeffrey McNeish, who lives in Billings, has just published his third book on the mine disaster that claimed 75 lives and nearly erased the close-knit communities of Bearcreek and Washoe from the map.In addition to the 74 miners killed by one of two blasts in the mine or a few hours later by gas poisoning, a rescue-team member, Matt Woodrow, 61, would be overcome by gas and die a few weeks later. The book project started 2-1/2 years ago when McNeish realized how little he knew about the mine disaster that took his great-grandfather's life and the lives of nine other relatives.

SLU researchers to look at laser treatment for acne scars

ST on Monday, January 14, 2008

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Researchers at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine plan to test a special laser treatment that might improve acne scars on people with darker skin.

The scars are difficult to remove. Physicians usually treat the scars by removing the surface of the skin with powerful lasers or chemical treatments.

These treatments can cause discoloration for people with darker skin.

Dermatologists at Saint Louis University plan a clinical trial to see if a gentler laser treatment might help. The technique would use lasers that bypass the surface of the skin and stimulate collagen growth underneath.
