Paris Hilton's movie The Hottie and The Nottie completely tanked this weekend. To be honest, I'm surprised it made more than $1.50. But, I'm no box office analyst. Fortunately the folks at Fantasy Moguls are and, like my fifth grade girlfriend, did the math for me: The final count will show that the critically reviled comedy featuring the seemingly talentless Hilton has sold a meager $25,500 in tickets at 111 locations over the weekend. That's only $230 per screen for theaters that were convinced to book this disaster. That means that, based on an $8 average ticket price, 29 paying customers showed up at each location over the 3-day. Paris didn't seem too concerned that her acting career is back in the shitter where God himself wants it. She unveiled her new line of shoes at Macy's yesterday and signed autographs for fans.
In and Out
Walk the Line grossed LE 143,130 on just one screen, while Munich and Crash did surprisingly well, earning LE 338,000 and LE 328,000, respectively. Commercial flicks proved they were aptly named, as Peter Jacksons remake of King Kong pulled in a staggering LE 2.5 million. With that, Kong crushed many of its rivals including some Arabic releases Al-Abaa Al-Seghar (Young Fathers) and Tessien Deqiqa (90 Minutes), which grossed LE 470,350 and LE 1.2 million, respectively. Megastars Youssra and Hanan Turk joining forces in Kalam Fel Hob (Talk About Love) earned a disappointing LE 653,757. Still, Hanan Turk is the busiest among Egyptian actors and actresses with a new Ramadan series and at least five (how is this physically possible?) movies to come this year. Lastly, if were going to talk money, heres a look at some of the salary adjustments in showbiz and, generally speaking, were looking at inflation in film stars paychecks for upcoming projects.
Vines: Priorities change for Strader
State Rep. Parkey Strader said battling liver cancer has given him a change in priorities, and "you will not see Parkey on the ballot again." The Republican who represents the 14th District in northwest Knox County disclosed last week that he will not seek re-election after two terms. He previously served as property assessor, first getting elected in 1972 and serving until 2000. He then became chief deputy in the assessor's office. Strader was diagnosed with cancer on July 5, 2006. A doctor at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston told him he could expect to live 13 months. It's now going on almost 1 1/2 years, he said. He's had multiple surgeries and other treatment. "Prayers do work," he said. Strader announced he is resigning as chief deputy to Knox County Property Assessor John Whitehead effective Dec.
