McClard's family questions justice

We were hoping people in court would take the recommendation of the director of the Department of Youth Dual Jurisdiction Program who testified in court on Jonathan's behalf. Instead, he got themaximum sentence possible. Jonathan had been reading his Bible and was coming back to God. He saw a way out and a way to put himself in a much better place. He took himself directly to God where he is now. There is great comfort in that for all of his family who know God because we know we will be reunited. There is great pain and suffering now. His life has been cut short and the potential of what he could have contributed with maturity is now gone.

Jonathan McClard's grandmother. .

Student Bands ‘Masquerock’

Beer and Butterfingers usually amount to a mediocre Thursday night, but as counterparts to the first-annual Masquerock at Quincy, they seemed to set a different tone.

There were Halloween jack-o-lanterns aplenty—and even a Great Pumpkin dedicated to a certain UC representative who failed to provide a proper speaker system. Despite the shoddy amps and microphones, a campy sense of fun settled over the Quincy Collective and the three Harvard-based bands that celebrated the whole point of Halloween: dressing up like somebody else. In this case, the bands donned the appropriate costumes to present covers of rock bands Third Eye Blind, and Nirvana.

Buoyed by the enthusiasm of “emcee" and Crimson Executive Abraham J.R. Riesman '08, the Quincy Cage (in the basement of Quincy House) became the epicenter for indie rock enthusiasts at Harvard eager for free beer and music.

Red Blood Cell Nuclei Insight Reported

U.S. researchers have completed the first mechanistic study of how a red blood cell loses its nucleus, shedding light on mammalian evolution.

Unlike the rest of the human body's cells, red blood cells lack nuclei and scientists have struggled to understand the mechanism by which maturing red blood cells eject their nuclei. Now, researchers led by Harvey Lodish at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research have modeled the complete process in vitro in mice.

Drunk last night? Don't show your boss on Facebook

Don't be tempted to boast about it on social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace, or worse provide pictures of yourself behaving like a complete buffoon.

For would-be employers could be digging for digital dirt. Readily available -- and possibly embarrassing -- information is just a mouse click away.

"The best advice is -- don't put anything on your profile you wouldn't want you mother to see," said Andy Powell, director at the international recruitment agency Badenoch & Clark.

He warned social networking devotees not to post pictures of debauched parties, to go easy on details of romantic trysts and never to complain about their current job or boss.

"More and more recruiters are taking note of 'net reputations,'" Powell said.
