Now, the first thing everyone on television tells you about snakes is that they’re not slimy and cold. In fact, they’re silky and soft and cuddly and shyly flirtatious, have a dry wit and are good with children and old people. Oddly, if you ever visit a country where large poisonous snakes visit the natives, you’ll notice the indigenous humans are invariably terrified into screaming abdabs by the mere mention of them, and simply can’t kill them fast enough.

It was the late 1980s and at first Brown, a veteran officer, was a little unsure of the assignment. Narcotics officers were a tight-knit group that relied heavily on each other during raids. "I wasn't really all that excited about an outsider coming into the group," Brown said. But Stefani, a former FBI special agent, eliminated any fears with his talent and his energy, Brown said. He brought a legal eye to the team and helped with search warrants. "He can just about outwork anybody I know," he said. After completing the ride-alongs, Stefani increased his contact with the department, getting assigned to a drug task force that kept him in contact with Brown. He worked all day at his law practice, kept an eye on the tiny Lake Angelus Police Department that he headed and did drug raids in Detroit at night.

He meant that new bands have no room to develop, and are often dropped if the first album doesn't do well. On the other side of that coin, huge names in the music world (Madonna, Paul McCartney) are leaving the major labels in droves, opting to start their own labels or jumping to smaller labels that seem better able to adapt to their artistic visions.
In what can only be described as a coup in social experimentation, Radiohead left its label behind and stunned the music industry when they announced that their new independently released album, In Rainbows, would only be available via download, and consumers could choose for themselves what to pay for it.
